Job Overview: A law firm in Mineola, NY, is seeking a highly qualified Labor and Employment Associate Attorney to join their team. The candidate will be responsible for handling a wide range of employment litigation matters and providing legal counsel on compliance issues. The ideal candidate should possess a deep understanding of employment law, litigation experience, and a strong commitment to delivering top-notch legal services to clients.

Duties:

  • Handle litigation cases from inception through resolution, including drafting answers, discovery demands, and responses, conducting and defending depositions, making court appearances, drafting motions, and arguing in federal or state court.
  • Independently handle and litigate discrimination and wage & hour cases, demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of relevant laws.
  • First chair trial experience is a significant advantage and will be highly valued.
  • Provide legal advice and counsel to clients on various compliance matters, including employee discipline and discharge, employee benefits, handbook and policy drafting, federal and state wage and hour laws, employee compensation, employee leave, and reasonable accommodation issues.
  • Ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Family and Medical Leave Act.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of employment litigation experience, including wage & hour and discrimination matters.
  • Admission to practice in New York and the Federal Court (at least Eastern and Southern Districts of New York).

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active and in good standing with the New York State Bar Association.

Certifications:

  • None specified.

Skills:

  • Strong litigation skills, including drafting legal documents and conducting depositions.
  • In-depth knowledge of labor and employment laws, especially discrimination and wage & hour laws.
  • Ability to provide legal counsel on compliance matters and draft employment-related documents.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
