Staff Counsel II, Workers Compensation California AmTrust Financial Services is currently seeking a Staff Counsel II for their Workers Compensation team in California. The ideal candidate will have experience in full-phase litigation, as well as a strong understanding of California labor laws and regulations. This position offers a competitive salary between $110K - $160K, with opportunities for advancement within the company. Key responsibilities for this position include: - Competently representing AmTrust North America and its carriers in all assigned cases, including preparation of pleadings, motions, discovery, and trial work - Efficiently managing a caseload involving full-phase litigation, including traveling to different Boards in Southern California and various AmTrust offices - Maintaining regular communication with the Claims Department and providing legal advice and services to claims administrators, underwriters, and employers - Staying current with market trends and attending continuing legal education seminars to maintain a high level of professional expertise - Assisting in developing training materials for Claims, Underwriting, and employers on relevant legal and factual issues - Appearing at depositions, mediations, and other legal-driven activities outside of the WCAB - Communicating with Workers’ Compensation Judges, opposing counsels, and clients in accordance with established office procedures - Keeping a solid understanding of AmTrust’s mission, vision, and values as a leader in the workers’ compensation industry Qualifications for this position include: - Licensed by the California State Bar - Strong technical knowledge and familiarity with California labor laws, rules, and case law - Ability to handle a caseload of up to 95 cases from inception to settlement and/or appellate level - 3+ years of recent and relevant experience in Workers’ Compensation - Trial and/or arbitration experience - Appellate experience - Ability to travel to various WCAB district offices in California and other locations as needed - Preferred: specialization in California Workers’ Compensation Law, experience in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), and strong working knowledge of TeamConnect and TimeMatters Salary Information: - Base pay offered may vary depending on education, experience, skills, geographic location, travel requirements, and sales or revenue-based metrics - This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California - The level II Staff Counsel salary range is between $110K - $160K - This range may be modified in the future based on various factors - During the interview process, your skills, abilities, and technical knowledge will be evaluated to determine the correct job level What We Offer: - Competitive compensation package - Excellent career advancement opportunities - Medical & Dental Plans - Life Insurance for eligible spouses and children - Health Care Flexible Spending and Dependent Care accounts - 401k Savings Plans - Paid Time Off - A diverse and inclusive culture that values the thoughts and ideas of all employees - Equal Opportunity Employer that embraces diversity and sees it as a business imperative - Participation in E-Verify program About AmTrust Financial Services: AmTrust Financial Services was founded in 1998 and provides workers’ compensation insurance to small businesses across the United States.
