A law firm in Chicago is currently seeking a Workers' Compensation Attorney to join their team. As a Workers' Compensation Attorney, the candidate will be responsible for defending workers' compensation cases representing the interests of employers or insurers. The role involves a range of duties, including gathering and reviewing medical evidence, conducting depositions, performing legal research, and litigating cases before administrative law judges. The ideal candidate should have a ., proof of admission to the Illinois Bar and a proven track record of progressive experience in workers' compensation defense work.

 

Duties:

  • Gather and review medical evidence and records.
  • Take depositions of claimants, physicians, medical experts, and other parties.
  • Conduct discovery and perform legal research.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, opinions, and other legal documents.
  • Litigate workers' compensation cases before administrative law judges.
  • Represent the interests of employers or insurers at hearings, trials, depositions, and other proceedings.
  • Communicate with claims representatives.
  • Monitor loss run reports and alert management to concerns.
  • Assist with accident investigations and problem areas.
  • Manage workers' compensation costs to reduce liability.
  • Compile and submit required reports to company management.
  • Coordinate and attend claims reviews.
  • Negotiate settlements on behalf of the insurance company/employer.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

  • . and proof of admission to the Illinois Bar; passing the Bar in another Midwest state is a plus.
  • Experience defending workers' compensation cases.
  • Working knowledge of legal principles and practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Thorough knowledge of legal research techniques and legal terminology.
  • Microsoft Word and Outlook experience is required; Perfect Law legal software experience is preferred.
  • Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, research, and administrative skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to multitask.
  • Excellent telephone and writing skills.
