Job Description

In-house Legal Counsel (East Region) - WSP

WSP, a leading engineering and consultancy company, is seeking a motivated and experienced In-house Legal Counsel to join their dynamic and award-winning legal team. This role will support the East Region and report to an office in the region. The successful candidate will have a strong legal background in engineering, design, construction management, and procurement contracts in the transportation, water, and infrastructure industry. This is a full-time, day shift position with excellent opportunities for career advancement within a multi-national organization.

Key Responsibilities:

- Provide strategic business and legal advice to all business units.
- Review and analyze client contracts, identifying important requirements and parties involved.
- Negotiate consulting, engineering, and construction contracts.
- Develop proactive risk mitigation strategies.
- Support claims within the region.
- Assist with legal training and development for project team members.
- Identify opportunities for process and practice improvements.

Qualifications:

- 7+ years of related industry experience, preferably in engineering, infrastructure, or commercial construction.
- Knowledge of CPFF, T&M, and FFP compensation types.
- Law degree from a recognized institution and membership in good standing with a bar.
- In-house experience working with an international organization.
- Strong collaborator and critical thinker.
- Ability to provide sound business and legal advice.
- Personable and able to partner with operations managers.
- Driven to achieve excellent results and win-win negotiations.
- Able to work independently and under pressure.
- Competent computing skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and see projects through completion.
- Strong business acumen and judgment.
