Overview:
GEICO is looking for an experienced Attorney III to join their legal team in Albuquerque, NM. This position will handle all Staff Counsel office activities related to defending lawsuits against GEICO insureds and representing GEICO in various legal matters in the state of New Mexico. The ideal candidate will have at least 7 years of litigation experience and be admitted to the New Mexico Bar.

Responsibilities:

- Conduct legal research and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda
- Provide opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department
- Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions and examinations before trial
- Defend assigned matters by trial, arbitration, or mediation
- Meet deadlines for responding to pleadings and correspondence
- Appear in court, arbitrations, depositions, meetings, and other scheduled matters
- Adhere to company policies and operating principles
- Conduct file audits and provide feedback on file handling and expense management

Basic Qualifications:

- Minimum of 7 years of litigation experience, including insurance defense or personal injury
- Juris Doctor degree required
- Admission to the New Mexico Bar required
- Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in New Mexico and meet and maintain licensing requirements
- Must be able to travel as required, including attending trials, hearings, depositions, and conferences
