This is a full-time position for 10 weeks during the summer of 2024, with a preference for placement in their New York City office. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects related to state legislative policy and advocacy, gaining valuable experience in the day-to-day operations of a public interest law organization. Programs, State Policy & Advocacy CENTER BACKGROUND: The Center for Reproductive Rights is a global human rights organization dedicated to ensuring that reproductive rights are protected as fundamental human rights around the world. With offices in New York City, Nairobi, Bogota, Geneva, and Washington, ., the Center works to change laws and policies in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the United States. Their team of 230+ diverse professionals is committed to advancing the Center's mission through litigation, legal policy, and advocacy work. The organization has a strong track record of success, having transformed how reproductive rights are understood and applied by courts, governments, and human rights bodies worldwide. ROLE: The State Policy and Advocacy Team is seeking a Summer Legal Associate who is enthusiastic, resourceful, and highly organized, with a commitment to reproductive rights. This role will provide the successful candidate with experience in a dynamic in-house state policy and advocacy team, including opportunities to participate in legislative tracking, research, legal and legislative analysis, and coalition advocacy. The position is full-time for up to 10 weeks and will be a hybrid role, with 3 days in-office and 2 days working from home. The Center requires all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Summer Legal Associate will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: - Monitoring and analyzing state legislation and other policy developments related to reproductive rights - Assisting with the creation of policy and advocacy materials - Conducting legal research and analysis - Collaborating with the State Legislative Counsels and other staff on legislative, advocacy, and research projects QUALIFICATIONS: - - Strong legal research and writing skills - Demonstrated interest in legislative policy work, public interest, gender justice, and/or reproductive rights BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES: - Develop & Manage Self & Others - Collaboration (People First) - Feedback (Improve & Innovate) - Accountability WORK COMPETENCIES: - Project Management - Problem Solve & Make Decisions - Internal/External Focus - Communication & Influence COMPENSATION: Summer Legal Associates are highly encouraged to seek outside funding for their placement, and the Center will supplement external funding to bring all Associates to a pay rate of $7,000 for the ten-week program. DURATION OF POSITION: This is a full-time position for 10 weeks from June 2024-August 2024.
