A law firm in Chicago is seeking a Consumer Finance Special Counsel. The candidate will be primarily responsible for regulatory counseling and drafting related to federal and state consumer lending laws. This includes advising on compliance with various acts such as the Truth in Lending Act and Fair Credit Reporting Act. The role requires substantial experience in consumer finance, including advising financial institutions, drafting contracts, and interpreting regulatory requirements.

 

Duties:

  • Provide regulatory counseling and drafting services focused on federal and state consumer lending laws.
  • Advise on compliance with laws including the Truth in Lending Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and Equal Credit Opportunity Act.
  • Draft contracts and lending documents for consumer and commercial purposes.
  • Interpret licensing requirements and ensure compliance for financial institutions.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes and advise clients accordingly.
  • Conduct research on consumer finance laws and regulations.

 

Requirements:

  • JD from an ABA-approved law school.
  • Active member of the Bar in good standing.
  • 5+ years of relevant regulatory experience.
  • Significant experience in consumer finance, particularly in compliance counseling.
  • Expertise in negotiating and drafting contracts.
  • Familiarity with state and federal regulatory interpretation.
  • Specific experience with the Fair Credit Reporting Act preferred.

 

Education and Certifications:

  • JD from an ABA-approved law school.
  • Active Bar membership in the jurisdiction.

 

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of federal and state consumer lending laws.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
