Organization: New Hampshire Legal Assistance (NHLA) Job Title: Immigrant Justice Project Staff Attorney Experience: Prior immigration law experience preferred Salary: Expected to range from $68, to $97, per year, depending on prior law-related work experience Location: Statewide in New Hampshire, with occasional travel to Boston and other out of state locations Application Deadline: February 23, 2024 Position Summary: NHLA is seeking a Staff Attorney to join their Immigrant Justice Project team. The Staff Attorney will focus on representing noncitizen survivors of crime in humanitarian-based matters such as asylum, U/T visa, VAWA, and SIJ cases. This position also includes occasional community engagement and education work. Duties: - Provide legal representation to noncitizen survivors of crime before EOIR and/or USCIS - Implement NHLA's holistic, client-centered approach to civil legal aid, including trauma-informed lawyering practices - Ensure language access and cultural humility in work with immigrant clients - Engage with community organizations and provide community education programs - Collaborate with other NHLA team members across practice areas Qualifications and Competencies: - Law degree and license to practice in New Hampshire, or eligibility for admission on motion - Prior immigration law experience preferred (but not required) - Willingness to travel within New Hampshire and to Boston on a regular basis - Ability to work collaboratively within a team - Current technology skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and Adobe - Experience working with low-income clients and communities a plus - Fluency in Spanish or another language in addition to English a plus (additional compensation available) Salary/Benefits: - Full-time position ( hours per week) - Exempt for the purpose of federal wage/hour law - Salary expected to range from $68, to $97, per year, depending on prior law-related work experience - Eligible for NHLA employee benefits package, including medical/dental insurance, retirement plan, and generous paid time off Application Process: - Email resume and cover email summarizing interest and qualifications to by February 23, 2024 - Cover letter not required, but please include any communication access needs or reasonable accommodations requested during the hiring process - If not currently admitted in New Hampshire, please indicate plans for seeking admission - All candidates will be notified of their application status after the hiring process is complete About New Hampshire Legal Assistance: - Statewide nonprofit law firm providing civil legal aid to low-income and older individuals and families - Represents clients in all state and federal courts, as well as before administrative agencies - Advocates for low-income and older people in the New Hampshire Legislature - Offers training and education to client communities and fellow service providers - 53 years of service in New Hampshire Hiring Process and Timeline: - Interview Committee will conduct first interviews with up to 6 candidates, with 45 minutes allotted per interview - Selected candidates will receive a list of interview questions at least 24 hours in advance - Second interviews with no more than 2 finalist candidates, with 30 minutes allotted per interview - References and a brief writing sample will be requested from the finalist candidate - Offer made to 1 candidate, contingent on completion of a criminal record background check - Candidates not selected will be notified after the hiring process is complete
