EarthRights International (ERI) is seeking . law school students for its . Legal Internship program for the fall semester. This is an unpaid internship opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in using the power of law to protect human rights and the environment. The internship is based in Washington ., but remote internships may be considered for exceptional candidates.

About EarthRights:

- EarthRights International is a nonprofit organization that works to defend human rights and the environment by combining the power of law and the power of people.
- Over the past 25 years, ERI has successfully fought for corporate accountability, protected the environment in the face of a climate emergency, and supported earth rights defenders around the world.
- ERI's legal team works closely with clients, co-counsel, partner NGOs, and other stakeholders to bring groundbreaking lawsuits and pursue legal advocacy for remedies and legal accountability.

Roles and Responsibilities:

- Legal interns will participate in projects related to ERI's cases, including legal research and writing, assisting in all phases of litigation, and developing new cases.
- Interns will also have the opportunity to work on policy advocacy with the . legislative and executive branches.
- Additionally, interns will assist in coordinating with and supporting other groups bringing domestic or international cases.
- EarthRights values diversity and interns will have the opportunity to work with attorneys and staff from different backgrounds and cultures.

Qualifications and Experience:

- Applicants must have completed at least one year of law school.
- A demonstrated commitment to using the . legal system to serve frontline communities and/or to protect human rights and the environment is required.
- Excellent legal research and writing skills are a must.
- Proficiency in one or more languages other than English, especially Spanish, as well as Burmese (Myanmar), Thai, Portuguese, French, and/or Chinese is desired.
- Applicants with a background in international human rights law, international environmental law, corporate accountability, and/or indigenous peoples’ rights are preferred.
- Experience in regional studies, development, environmental sciences, or other related fields is a plus.
