A law firm in Chicago is seeking a General Liability/Civil Litigation Attorney to defend claims and represent the interests of clients or insurers in various legal proceedings. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background, proven experience defending general liability and civil claims, and the ability to effectively manage legal matters from inception to resolution.

Job Details:

• Gather and analyze medical evidence and records.
• Depose plaintiffs, physicians, experts, and other parties/witnesses.
• Conduct discovery and perform legal research.
• Remain current with developments in the law.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, opinions, and other legal documents.
• Represent clients or insurers at hearings, trials, depositions, mediations, and other proceedings.
• Communicate with claims representatives and assist with accident investigations and claim analysis.
• Manage costs to reduce liability and compile necessary reports for company management.
• Coordinate and attend claims reviews and negotiate settlements on behalf of clients and insurers.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• . degree and proof of admission to the Illinois Bar.
• 3+ years of experience defending general liability and civil claims.
• Working knowledge of legal principles, practices, and local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
• Thorough understanding of legal research techniques and terminology.
• Experience with Microsoft Word required; familiarity with Time Matters legal software preferred.
• Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and research skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Portable business is a plus.
