Job Family Summary:

- Responsible for managing Insurance Defense and Tort Litigation/Disputes work and related issues/matters

Job Summary:

- Represents insureds and the company in bodily injury and property damage lawsuits, subrogation, and Allstate Financial cases
- Prepares for and conducts hearings, trials, arbitrations, mediations, and depositions
- Assists colleagues in resolving calendar conflicts
- Provides project management, coordination, and collaboration between legal teams within L&R and with business clients
- Conducts research, drafting, reviewing, advising, and negotiating for more complex matters
- Provides budget oversight

Key Responsibilities:

- Review new file assignments, approve initial pleadings, and develop strategy
- Contact clients to discuss their case and maintain contact at a minimum of 90 days
- Contact claims for initial litigation plan, recurring minimum 90 day contact, and strategy conferences
- Review all documentary evidence
- Prepare witnesses and clients for depositions, arbitrations, mediations, and trials
- Conduct depositions and examinations under oath, and prepare summary documents
- Prepare and conduct court appearances
- Conduct settlement/dispositive proceedings
- Try and/or arbitrate cases and prepare motions and summary documents
- Draft post-trial motions and participate in appeals
- Provide legal opinions to claims clients
- Investigate and pursue subrogation litigation
- Second chair cases with Trial Attorneys and Senior Trial Attorneys as needed
- Review and determine strategy for legal issues sent to home office
- Participate in business process reviews with claims clients

- Legal Advice and Counseling: Perform due diligence, conduct research, and provide advice and counsel to business units on new laws and emerging legal issues
- Drafting and Negotiation: Draft, review, and negotiate moderately complex matters and agreements

- Project Management: Lead project management initiatives and coordinate with legal teams and business clients
- Management of Outside Counsel: Perform bill/file reviews, evaluate and retain outside counsel, and supervise their work
