A law firm based in New York City, NY is actively seeking an accomplished and experienced Lateral Trusts & Estates Partner to complement their team. The ideal candidate must possess a portable business of at least $1M and demonstrate expertise in trusts and estates law.

 

Job Duties:

  • Provide comprehensive estate planning advice to high-net-worth individuals and families, including wills, trusts, and estate administration.
  • Advise clients on complex estate tax matters, including gift tax planning, generation-skipping transfer tax issues, and charitable giving strategies.
  • Draft and review legal documents, such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and advance healthcare directives.
  • Represent clients in trust and estate litigation matters, including will contests, trust disputes, and fiduciary litigation.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and professional networks to expand the firm's trusts and estates practice.

 

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in the New York State Bar or eligibility for admission by motion.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience practicing trusts and estates law at a reputable law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Demonstrated success in generating and maintaining a portable business of at least $1M.
  • Thorough knowledge of federal and New York state estate and gift tax laws.
  • Experience with sophisticated estate planning techniques, including family limited partnerships, grantor retained annuity trusts, and charitable remainder trusts.

 

Certifications:

  • Certification in Estate Planning, Trust, and Probate Law by the American Bar Association preferred.
  • Membership in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) preferred.

 

Skills:

  • Exceptional client management and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong business development acumen with a proven ability to attract and retain high-net-worth clients.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other attorneys and staff members.
