Director, Privacy & Data Protection - Exciting Opportunity at BDO

BDO is seeking a highly experienced and knowledgeable Director to join our thriving Privacy & Data Protection (PDP) Practice. As a data protection and privacy subject matter expert and engagement leader, the Director will play a critical role in providing global solutions for our clients' data protection and privacy needs. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional who is passionate about working with both domestic and international clients and professionals.

In this role, the PDP Director will be responsible for maintaining existing client relationships, developing new relationships to drive new opportunities for the firm, delivering quality work product for clients, managing project teams, and ensuring that BDO projects are completed on-time and on-budget. This position offers the chance to work with a diverse range of clients and collaborate with BDO Member Firms and offshore team members.

Key Responsibilities:

- Develop and deliver global data protection and privacy strategies to client C-suite/board
- Build cross-culture functionality for clients to operationalize global privacy programs
- Develop and deliver privacy operations program plans for global corporate clients
- Manage BDO USA team members and collaborate with BDO Member Firms and offshore team members
- Provide detailed level information to clients around various domestic and global privacy laws
- Guide and advise team members on project budget and scheduling
- Establish new relationships to drive new opportunities for BDO
- Comply with BDO’s Quality Risk Management, Data Protection, and other Frameworks to ensure consistency across service delivery
- Manage and maintain relationships with client professionals and introduce other BDO professionals to expand on existing relationships
- Manage the day-to-day project requirements and on-site and/or remote team
- Ensure clients receive timely, actionable, and thoughtful responses to questions, data subject requests, or supervisory authority inquiries
- Build relationships with other BDO professionals, cross-sell into different industries and services, and participate in BDO and industry events where subject matter expertise is requested
- Ensure corporate clients receive quality level services
- Update appropriate customer relationship management to ensure appropriate pipeline reporting
- Review client executive reports and provide feedback to team members
- Develop proposals, respond to RFP/RFI’s, and ensure Master Service Agreements and engagement letters are managed according to BDO standards
- Utilize knowledge of client needs to develop project and resource plans, establish reporting and metrics, and provide clients with regular updates
- Participate in and conduct business unit, legal, IT, privacy, and governance interviews and meetings as needed
- Proofread and edit executive reports prior to presenting to prospects and existing clients
- Manage BDO client and BDO Partner expectations at all levels
- Mentor team members to ensure consistent quality of work product throughout client engagements and application of BDO standards for every engagement
- Manage multiple large, complex, and potentially long-term engagements and clients
- Manage client expectations at all levels of the organization, including supporting in-person presentations to senior-level executives
- Support the Data Protection Officer for clients, as required
- Develop and manage project budgets, review invoices for consistency, and ensure timely delivery of invoices
- Act as a leader and project a professional, positive attitude toward clients and firm personnel
- Manage a team of professionals on a project or regional basis
- Other duties as required

Supervisory Responsibilities:

- Ensure Sr. Managers, Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates are trained on all relevant software, practice tools, and processes
- Evaluate the performance of Sr. Managers, Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates and assist in the development of goals and objectives to enhance professional development
- Deliver periodic performance feedback and complete performance evaluations for Sr. Managers, Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates in accordance with Firm guidance
- Act as a mentor to Sr. Managers, Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates, as appropriate

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Education:

- Bachelor’s degree, required
- Master’s, Juris Doctorate, or MBA, preferred

Experience:

- Ten (10) or more years of consulting experience, required
- Three (3) or more years of data protection or privacy experience, required
- Experience working with Fortune 500 clients, preferred
- Five (5) or more years of experience managing large, complex privacy projects, required

License(s)/Certification(s):

- One (1) or more of the following privacy certifications, required:
- CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPM, CIPT, CDPSE or other privacy certifications
- OneTrust, TrustArc, or other privacy enabled technology solutions, preferred

Software:

- OneTrust, BigID, and other privacy and GRC software
- Strong Microsoft PowerPoint skills, required
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Visio, required, including Office 365, OneDrive, and SharePoint, preferred
- Knowledge of database systems, software development lifecycle, and technology company operations, preferred
