A law firm in Portland is actively seeking an experienced Defense Litigation Associate Attorney with 5+ years of practice. The candidate will independently handle various defense litigation cases, including but not limited to Business Litigation, Construction Law, Data Breach and Security Response, Hospitality and Food-Borne Illness Litigation, Motor Vehicle Accidents, Premises Liability, Product Liability, Professional Liability, Real Estate Litigation, Toxic Tort / Asbestos Litigation, and Transportation and Trucking Law. The role requires strong drafting, writing, and researching skills, excellent client relationship and interpersonal skills, and a preference for candidates with law firm and case management experience, including deposition, motions practice, and trial experience. Oregon State Bar membership is required, and Washington State Bar membership is a plus. Experience in school law or public entity defense is desired.

 

Duties:

  • Independently handle a variety of defense litigation cases, including Business Litigation, Construction Law, Data Breach and Security Response, Hospitality and Food-Borne Illness Litigation, Motor Vehicle Accidents, Premises Liability, Product Liability, Professional Liability, Real Estate Litigation, Toxic Tort / Asbestos Litigation, and Transportation and Trucking Law.
  • Draft and review legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and trial-related materials.
  • Interact directly with clients, providing updates and addressing inquiries.
  • Conduct legal research to support case strategies and client objectives.
  • Manage cases throughout the litigation process, including deposition, motions practice, and trial experience.
  • Uphold high levels of professionalism and ethical standards in all interactions.

 

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
  • Admission to and good standing with the Oregon State Bar.
  • 5+ years of defense litigation experience.
  • Strong drafting, writing, and researching skills.
  • Excellent client relationship and interpersonal skills.
  • Law firm and case management experience, including deposition, motions practice, and trial experience (preferred).
  • Washington State Bar membership (a plus).
  • Experience in school law or public entity defense (desired).

 

Skills:

  • Extensive experience in defense litigation across various practice areas.
  • Proficient drafting, writing, and researching skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
