A law firm in York, PA is seeking a Criminal Defense Attorney with a minimum of 2 years of experience. The attorney will be responsible for meeting with clients, reviewing facts, building cases, and developing strategies. They will collect retainers, conduct thorough research, negotiate with the prosecution, draft legal motions, and represent clients in pretrial hearings and trials. The attorney must possess excellent academic and employment credentials, PA Bar admission, and the ability to handle a high caseload.

 

Duties:

  • Meet with clients at various firm office locations, virtually or by phone, to review facts and develop case strategies.
  • Collect retainers and execute contracts specifying the working relationship parameters.
  • Research cases by interviewing witnesses, reviewing evidence, and consulting with clients.
  • Research case law, statutes, crime codes, and procedural law.
  • Negotiate with the prosecution for plea bargains to lesser charges where applicable.
  • Draft, file, and argue motions, including motions to dismiss and motions to suppress.
  • Attend all pretrial hearings on behalf of clients and advise clients on the best strategies.
  • Conduct trials and/or administrative proceedings as necessary.

 

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience as a practicing criminal defense attorney preferred.
  • Ability to handle a high caseload.
  • Strong client-attorney relationship-building skills.
  • Exceptional investigative and research skills to build a client’s case and establish a strong defense.
  • In-depth understanding of state and local rules, court procedures, evidentiary laws, and judges in the criminal justice system.
  • Excellent oral and written advocacy skills to argue cases before a judge and persuade a jury.
  • Experience with SmartAdvocate case management software is a plus.
  • Spanish bilingual is a plus.

 

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (.) degree.
  • PA Bar admission.
