Job Description

- Tax Manager, Tax Automation & Innovation
- Location: Dallas, TX, United States
- Full-time, day shift

The Tax Manager, Tax Automation & Innovation is a key member of the Tax Automation & Innovation team at BDO. This role involves collaborating with clients and team members to implement tax automation tools and strategies, as well as participating in marketing, networking, and business development activities. The Tax Manager is responsible for assessing client tax departments and determining areas for automation across tax data, process, technology, and workforce. They are also responsible for running engagements from proposal to deployment, and providing ongoing support and maintenance to clients. Other responsibilities may include collaborating with other offices within the firm to assist with tax solutions for clients, as well as developing new internal tax solutions and providing training and consulting on existing processes and technologies.

Job Duties:

- Qualify prospective clients and identify opportunities for expanding current business
- Develop unique strategies aligned with clients' business objectives
- Lead planning and project delivery meetings, including proposal delivery and solutions workshops or training
- Understand project work plans and direct staff accordingly
- Assist in managing client expectations and requirements
- Gather client requirements and estimate fees for proposals
- Draft clear and compelling proposals and business cases
- Identify opportunities to streamline internal standards and processes
- Communicate complex technical items to target audiences effectively
- Demonstrate advanced project and process management skills
- Gain exposure to setting strategy and establishing methodology for clients by working with Tax AI leadership
- Take ownership of risk mitigation and quality assurance
- Understand and follow proper scoping for client engagements
- Execute standard project setup procedures and track billing and project economics
- Collaborate with project teams and clients to understand the big picture
- Construct comprehensive business cases for clients
- Clearly identify clients' business requirements and expectations and communicate to staff
- Communicate status to clients and promptly respond to requests for information
- Help clients navigate complex issues
- Other duties as required

Supervisory Responsibilities:

- Schedule and manage workload of Associates and Senior Associates
- Review work prepared by Associates and Senior Associates and provide feedback

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education:

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or Technology, preferred
- Graduate degree, preferred

Experience:

- 5+ years of experience with technology or tax systems
- Experience with ASC 740 tax accounting, consulting, or income tax compliance, preferred
- Leadership experience, preferred

License/Certifications:

- CPA, Attorney, or Enrolled Agent certification, OR certification in Bloomberg, Corptax, Longview, Orbitax, or Thomson Reuters
- Certification in Alteryx, RPA, Microsoft Power Apps, or other analytics software

Software:

- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, with advanced skills preferred
- Experience with Bloomberg, Oracle, Thomson Reuters, Longview, OneStream, Corptax, RPA tools (UiPath, PowerAutomate, etc.), ETL tools (Alteryx, Power Query, Power Pivot, Tableau Prep, etc.), or Visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.)

Other Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

- Ability to work well remotely
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong people skills and ability to work in a team
- Ability to prepare and conduct presentations to clients
- Executive presence and strong client development/relationship-building skills
- Demonstrated decision-making skills
- Proficiency in tax accounting and/or solution development concepts
- Advanced knowledge of engagement management and project management skills
- Ability to complete projects independently
- Ability to travel 10-25% of the time

Salary Information:

- National Range: $76,000 - $160,000
- NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $76,000 - $160,000
