This is a non-merit position, meaning it is not classified within the Baltimore County Government Classification and Compensation Plan. A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination process outlined below. Key Responsibilities: - Handle hundreds of cases a year, including Pray Jury Trials and felony cases - Handle criminal misdemeanor cases, such as domestic assaults, thefts, and identity thefts - Prepare files, communicate with Defense Attorneys, and physically attend court for assigned dockets - Manage and prioritize multiple complex matters - Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing - Establish and maintain effective relationships with colleagues and external parties - Work independently and meet deadlines while handling multiple tasks - Maintain professionalism under pressure - Possess strong interpersonal, writing, and technology skills - Perform with minimal administrative support Qualifications: - Graduation from an ABA accredited law school - Licensed to practice law in the State of Maryland or eligible to waive into the bar - Knowledge of Maryland and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and Evidence, as well as Local Rules for the United States District Court for the District of Maryland and Rules of Professional Responsibility - Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local law - Ability to manage and prioritize multiple complex matters - Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written - Ability to maintain effective relationships with others - Ability to work independently and meet deadlines - Strong sense of ownership and responsibility - Strong interpersonal skills and writing and drafting skills - Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal research platforms such as Westlaw - Willingness to perform with minimal administrative support Proof of Licenses, Certifications, and Education: - At the time of interview, applicant must submit a Certificate of Good Standing from the Maryland Court of Appeals Character Requirement: - Must be of good moral character and emotionally stable, as determined by a comprehensive background investigation and drug test Citizenship Requirement: - Must be a citizen of the United States at the time of appointment Conditions of Employment: - Employees hired after July 1, 2022 are required to participate in the Baltimore County Employees’ Retirement System - Employment Background Investigation, including criminal background, education, and fingerprinting checks To apply, interested applicants must attach their resume, three professional references, and any relevant degree/transcript or certification/license.
