A law firm in Chicago, IL, is seeking a Senior Associate Attorney with at least 5 years of experience in first-party insurance coverage litigation. The successful candidate will assist in managing a thriving insurance coverage practice, oversee junior associates, and actively handle defense and prosecution of coverage matters from case inception through trial.

 

Job Duties:

  • Assist in managing a thriving insurance coverage practice, primarily focused on first-party insurance coverage.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to junior associates working on assigned files.
  • Actively handle defense and prosecution of coverage matters from case inception through trial.
  • Demonstrate an established understanding of first-party insurance coverage, with an emphasis on property insurance.
  • Conduct 30(b)(6) depositions, as well as depositions of insureds, public adjusters, engineers, and building contractors.
  • Conduct examinations under oath and conduct ancillary legal research to author coverage opinions for claims adjusting personnel and in-house counsel.
  • Defend coverage and extracontractual liability matters in state and federal courts, as well as prosecute declaratory judgment matters on insurance coverage issues.
  • Provide oversight and advice to claims personnel and in-house counsel on property insurance appraisals.
  • Maintain licensure in both the State of Illinois and the . District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, or other applicable federal district court.

 

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the State Bar of Illinois.
  • Admission to the . District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, or other applicable federal district court.
  • 5+ years of experience in first-party insurance coverage litigation.
  • Possess strong organization and communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to supervise junior associates, manage files, and report directly to clients.
  • Demonstrate strong research and analytical skills.

 

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of first-party insurance coverage, particularly property insurance.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Ability to supervise junior associates and manage files effectively.
  • Proficiency in conducting depositions and examinations under oath.
