A law firm is seeking a Patent Agent for its Huntsville location. The Patent Agent must have experience in intellectual property (IP), specifically with drafting and patent prosecution, and possess a background in computer science, electrical engineering, or a similar field. Design engineering experience with a chip company is a plus. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in networking, software, 3G/4G/5G wireless networks, or similar technologies. The candidate must be admitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Bar licensure in California is a plus.

 

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications.
  • Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate searches.
  • Analyze technical documents and provide patentability opinions.
  • Assist with patent portfolio management.
  • Communicate with inventors and clients to gather necessary information.
  • Assist with licensing and IP litigation support.

 

Requirements:

  • 2-6 years of legal experience.
  • Background in computer science, electrical engineering, or similar field.
  • Experience with drafting and patent prosecution.
  • Admitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Bar licensure in California (preferred).

 

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or related field.
  • Juris Doctor (.) degree from an accredited law school (preferred).

 

Certifications:

Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
