Job Title: ILF Global Legal Intern

Organization: International Legal Foundation (ILF)

Location: Worldwide (primarily New York, with offices in Afghanistan, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, Palestine, and Tunisia)

Salary: Unpaid, with no travel expenses provided. Candidates are encouraged to seek external funding.

Experience: Open to . law students (1Ls, 2Ls, 3Ls, LLMs and SJDs) with a demonstrated commitment to social justice and human rights. Prior experience in criminal defense or public defense is a plus.

About the Organization:
- Established in 2001, the ILF is a global advocate for the right to counsel
- Mission is to make justice a reality for poor people by fighting for high-quality legal representation for all arrested or detained individuals
- Headquartered in New York with offices or programming in various countries
- Provides criminal defense services, partners with civil society organizations, and builds sustainable legal aid institutions
- Prevents human rights abuses and protects the rights of the accused
- Offers a unique opportunity for hands-on learning in a global public defense organization

About the Internship:
- Exposes interns to a range of work in one or more countries, including direct representation, strategic litigation, and policy advocacy
- Responsibilities include drafting legal memos, conducting legal research, providing support for lawyer training programs, and developing advocacy tools
- Open to . law students with a passion for public defense and the rights of the accused
- Requires strong organizational skills, ability to think strategically and execute tactically, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Prior experience in criminal defense or public defense is a plus
- Offers both remote and in-person internship opportunities
