As the Managing Attorney for Mercury Insurance, you will play a crucial role in providing legal representation to insureds and the company in personal injury lawsuits. This is a full-time position with a salary range of $137,363 to $247,680. The position is open to candidates with a law degree and admission to the Bar in the state(s) where practicing. As a Managing Attorney, you will be responsible for preparing legal documentation, obtaining and preparing defense information, and advising clients and claims personnel on complex legal issues. You will also serve as a technical resource for the department and provide coaching and advice to less experienced legal personnel. Additionally, you will coordinate work assignments within the legal branch to ensure efficient operations and carry out supervisory responsibilities for employment, disciplining, counseling, recommending salary changes and promotions, training and evaluating performance. Key Responsibilities: • Provide legal representation to insureds and the company in personal injury lawsuits • Prepare necessary legal documentation and obtain and prepare pertinent defense information • Advise clients and claims personnel on complex legal issues • Serve as a technical resource for the department and provide coaching and advice to less experienced legal personnel • Coordinate work assignments within the legal branch for efficient operations • Carry out supervisory responsibilities for employment, disciplining, counseling, recommending salary changes and promotions, training and evaluating performance Education and Experience: • Completion of a graduate law degree from an accredited program, fulfillment of state Bar requirements • Law degree and admission to the Bar in the state(s) where practicing • 4 years of defense or personal injury experience • At least 1 year of supervisory experience is preferred • Or equivalent combination of education and/or experience Knowledge and Skills: • Comprehensive knowledge of insurance and tort laws • Able to perform legal assignments that are varied and require extensive research and analysis of applicable precedents • Expertise to manage cases by planning and initiating effective investigations and discoveries and to evaluate the potential exposure for settlement, arbitration and trial in terms of liability and damages • Strong communication, persuasion and negotiation skills to represent client and company interests in litigation situations • Ability to effectively supervise and direct legal personnel in daily operations • Able to motivate, monitor and develop subordinates to maintain a knowledgeable and highly-qualified legal staff • Requires the constant exercise of independent judgment with respect to personnel and legal issues • Able to work independently with minimum direction and good organizational skills needed to manage high volume of cases • Requires considerable automobile travel, up to 20% of work time • Must meet established company standards regarding personal driving history and current license status to be eligible for position About Mercury Insurance: At Mercury Insurance, we have been guided by our purpose to help people reduce risk and overcome unexpected events for more than 60 years.
