The Public Law Center (PLC) is seeking a Supervising Attorney (Housing Law) to join their team in Orange County. This is a full-time position with a salary range of $90,000 to $100,000 annually. PLC is an equal employment opportunity employer and is committed to providing high quality legal services to low-income residents and nonprofit organizations in the community. The Supervising Attorney will serve as a member of PLC's leadership team and actively participate in office-wide management activities, while also supervising staff attorneys, paralegals, and administrative staff to ensure high quality legal services are provided to clients. This role will also involve overseeing case referrals and providing support to volunteer attorneys and law students, as well as working collaboratively with other legal services providers, community groups, and government officials. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience, preferably with at least three years of litigation experience, and must be an active member of the California State Bar or eligible to practice under the State Bar Multijurisdictional Practice Program. Knowledge of landlord-tenant, housing law, and the eviction process is preferred. A valid driver's license, insurance, and good driving record are also required. Additionally, the candidate must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 unless they have a valid medical reason or sincerely held religious belief preventing vaccination.

Organization Overview:

The Public Law Center (PLC) is a non-profit legal organization that provides high quality legal services to low-income residents and nonprofit organizations in Orange County. PLC offers assistance in a variety of legal areas, including Consumer Law and Bankruptcy, Family Law, Immigration, Housing and Homelessness Prevention, Veterans, Health Law, and Transactional Law. Clients can apply for assistance through specialized phone lines, community and courthouse-based clinics, and community partner referrals. PLC's mission is to fight for justice for low-income and self-represented litigants and entrepreneurs in Orange County through innovative, collaborative, community-centered lawyering to address inequities and support access to justice.

Responsibilities:

- Serve as a member of PLC's leadership team and actively participate in office-wide management activities
- Supervise staff attorneys, paralegals, and administrative staff to ensure high quality legal services are provided to PLC's clients
- Oversee case referrals and provide support to volunteer attorneys and law students
- Work collaboratively with other legal services providers, community groups, and government officials
- Ensure grant compliance, compile grant reports, and respond to audits for grants funding the housing unit in conjunction with the development and finance staff
- Secure training opportunities for unit staff in relevant substantive legal areas
- Provide legal assistance, representation, and advocacy on behalf of low-income housing clients
- Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements:

- Active membership in the California State Bar or eligibility to practice under the State Bar Multijurisdictional Practice Program
- Minimum of 5 years of experience, preferably with at least three years of litigation experience
- Knowledge of landlord-tenant, housing law, and the eviction process preferred
- Must have own transportation, valid CA Driver's license, insurance, and good driving record
- Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 unless the applicant has a valid medical reason for not being fully vaccinated or a sincerely held religious belief preventing vaccination

Compensation and Benefits:

Compensation for this position is dependent on experience and falls within a range of $90,000 to $100,000 annually. Competitive benefits are also provided.

This position is located at PLC's Annex Office in Orange County.
