A law firm in Springfield is seeking an Attorney experienced in workers' compensation defense work to handle a variety of legal duties including case management, litigation, negotiation, and communication with claims representatives. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, legal acumen, and attention to detail.

 

Duties:

  • Gather and review medical evidence and records
  • Take depositions of claimants, physicians, medical experts, and other parties
  • Conduct discovery and perform legal research
  • Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents
  • Litigate workers' compensation cases before administrative law judges
  • Represent the interests of employers or insurers at hearings, trials, depositions, mediations, and other proceedings
  • Communicate with claims representatives and monitor loss run reports
  • Assist with accident investigations and problem areas
  • Manage workers' compensation costs and compile required reports
  • Negotiate settlements on behalf of insurance companies/employers
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

 

Requirements:

  • . and proof of admission to Illinois Bar; passing the Bar in another Midwest state is a plus
  • Proven track record of progressive experience in workers’ compensation defense work
  • Working knowledge of legal principles and practices
  • In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations
  • Thorough understanding of legal research techniques and terminology
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Outlook; Time Matters legal software experience preferred
  • Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, research, and administrative skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask
  • Strong telephone and writing skills
  • Dependability and ability to plan and organize effectively
