A law firm is seeking a qualified Mid-Level Insurance Coverage Associate or Special Counsel Attorney to join their team in New York City. The ideal candidate will represent insurance companies in coverage disputes, providing legal counsel on a range of coverage matters. The position requires a minimum of 3 years of law firm experience in insurance coverage and litigation.

 

Duties:

  • Represent insurance companies in coverage disputes, specializing in general liability policies.
  • Litigate in New York and Federal Court, focusing on Labor Law claims, construction defect claims, personal and advertising injury claims, and contribution claims.
  • Analyze insurance policies and other relevant contracts.
  • Handle all phases of the litigation process, including drafting motions, pleadings, initial disclosures, discovery demands, and discovery responses.
  • Draft settlement agreements and take depositions.
  • Participate in conferences and handle appeals.
  • Utilize superior research, writing, and communication skills to effectively advocate for clients.
  • Demonstrate proven and solid courtroom experience.
  • Bring arbitration and/or trial experience to the role.

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of law firm experience in insurance coverage and litigation.
  • Must be licensed in New York.
  • Additional licensure in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, or Delaware is a significant advantage.

 

Education:

Juris Doctor (.) from an accredited law school.

 

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law in New York.
  • Additional licenses in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, or Delaware are highly desirable.

 

Skills:

  • Strong litigation skills with a focus on general liability policies.
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in analyzing insurance policies and relevant contracts.
  • Ability to handle all aspects of the litigation process independently.
  • Demonstrated experience in drafting settlement agreements and taking depositions.
  • Proven courtroom experience, with a preference for those with arbitration and/or trial experience.
