Nationwide, a Fortune 100 insurance company, is currently seeking a Managing Trial Attorney for its Workers Compensation division. This position will manage a team of attorneys and paralegals and will be based in California, with the possibility of a hybrid or fully remote work environment depending on location. The ideal candidate will have experience in Workers Compensation and a strong background in litigation, with at least 10 years of experience.

The Nationwide Trial Division (NTD) is a national team with offices in six regions across the United States. As a Managing Trial Attorney, you will co-lead one of these offices and have the opportunity to influence and drive the office's reputation, performance and overall success. You will work closely with the office's lead MTA and oversee various aspects of the office's operations, including staffing, case assignments, quality of legal services, budgeting, and associate development. There may also be opportunities for you to directly handle cases.

Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of NTD standard methodologies, processes and guidelines, providing training as needed
- Maintain and foster positive relationships with clients and claims management
- Lead and oversee the performance and efficiency of attorneys, paralegals and support staff in the assigned office
- Assist in preparing business reports and analyzing trends to make critical business decisions
- Co-manage and coordinate administrative functions for the office, including expense management
- Monitor and respond to office growth demands or reductions in workforce, including staffing, physical plan and technology needs
- Other responsibilities as assigned

Requirements:
-
- Active license in the state where the position is located
- At least 10 years of relevant civil litigation and trial experience, with jury trial experience as lead counsel preferred
- Management experience required
- Expertise in highly complex matters of law
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong negotiation skills
- Excellent analytical and legal skills
- Computer savvy with a solid understanding of basic software and use of same
- Ability to train and develop trial attorneys, paralegals and support staff
- Decision-making ability to set work priorities and make recommendations
- Strong leadership skills, including motivating, influencing and problem solving
- Familiarity with private practice of law policy and ethical rules
- Compliance with all corporate and NTD policies and procedures

Working Conditions:
- Normal office environment with frequent travel and occasional overnight travel
- Extended hours may be necessary to meet the demands of the profession
