Job Purpose:

As a Senior Litigation Attorney, you will provide efficient and skilled legal representation to MEM and/or its policyholders in workers' compensation litigation. This includes handling high exposure disputes and litigation, providing legal advice on complex matters, appearing in all state courts and administrative hearings, and conducting legal research and preparing written opinions.

Responsibilities:

- Manage high exposure disputes and litigation, including trials and appeals
- Provide legal advice on complex matters such as conflicts, discovery, and occupational diseases
- Appear in all state courts and administrative hearings, acting as lead counsel at trials and hearings
- Conduct depositions and other discovery of witnesses
- Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions, and briefs in support of defense strategies
- Negotiate settlements of workers' compensation claims
- Conduct legal research and provide written opinions and informal advice to claims representatives and other departments
- Contribute to the management of partnering relationships with internal clients

Education:

- Licensed in Illinois and Missouri

Experience:

- Minimum 7 years of experience in law practice
- Solid emphasis in insurance law and/or workers' compensation law
