A law firm in Chicago, IL is seeking an Associate Attorney with experience in insurance coverage and commercial litigation to assist partners in managing a diverse practice. The ideal candidate will handle various tasks from case inception through trial, including depositions, motions, hearings, and trial preparation.

 

Duties:

  • Assist partners in managing insurance, personal injury, premises, insurance broker E&O, municipal, and coverage defense cases.
  • Defend numerous case files from inception through trial.
  • Conduct depositions of parties, witnesses, treating physicians, and experts.
  • Draft and argue routine and substantive motions.
  • Attend court hearings in various counties and courthouses, including by Zoom.
  • Prepare status and trial strategy reports for clients.
  • Conduct examinations under oath and author coverage opinions.
  • Assist in drafting and prosecuting declaratory judgment actions on insurance coverage questions.
  • Handle all aspects of discovery, including drafting and answering interrogatories, production requests, and requests to admit.

 

Requirements:

  • Good standing with the Illinois Bar; Indiana license preferred.
  • Experience in both Illinois state and federal courts, including the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
  • 2+ years of experience in insurance coverage and commercial litigation.
  • Strong organization and communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to proactively seek guidance with work tasks when necessary.
  • Deposition experience preferred.
  • Meaningful litigation experience preferred.

 

Education:

Juris Doctor (.) degree from an accredited law school.

 

Certifications:

Good standing with the Illinois Bar; Indiana license preferred.

 

Skills:

  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in drafting legal documents and motions.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Prior experience in insurance coverage and commercial litigation is a plus.
