A law firm is seeking a Junior Data Privacy Associate Attorney in Houston. The attorney will be responsible for providing legal support and counsel on privacy and cybersecurity matters, including risk advisory, compliance counseling, transactional support, regulatory investigations, incident response, and litigation.

 

Duties:

  • Conduct legal research and analysis on privacy and cybersecurity laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Assist in drafting and reviewing privacy policies, procedures, and compliance documentation.
  • Provide guidance and support on data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) and privacy impact assessments (PIAs).
  • Assist in negotiating and drafting privacy and data security provisions in corporate and technology transactions.
  • Support regulatory and governmental investigations related to privacy and cybersecurity matters.
  • Assist in developing and delivering privacy and cybersecurity training programs for clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, compliance, and risk management, to ensure alignment on privacy and cybersecurity initiatives.

 

Requirements:

  • 1-2 years of experience advising on privacy and cybersecurity issues.
  • Familiarity with privacy and security frameworks such as GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, NIST, or similar.
  • Juris Doctor (.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Bar in TX or ability to waive into the jurisdiction.

 

Education:

Juris Doctor (.) degree from an accredited law school.

 

Certifications (preferred):

  • Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) certification.
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification.

 

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Familiarity with technology and data protection concepts.
