A law firm in Detroit, MI, is seeking a Research and Writing Attorney to join its team. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of appellate writing experience, impeccable legal research and writing skills, and the ability to assist trial lawyers with legal research, writing, and motion practice. Membership in good standing with the Michigan Bar and a . from an ABA-approved law school are required. Former appellate or circuit court clerkship experience is desirable, as well as law review experience and being in the top 15% of the graduating class.

 

Duties:

  • Conduct legal research and analysis to support trial lawyers in various litigation matters.
  • Draft legal briefs, memoranda, and other documents for appellate and trial court proceedings.
  • Assist in motion practice, including drafting motions, responses, and other pleadings.
  • Collaborate with litigation teams to develop case strategies and arguments.
  • Review and analyze case law, statutes, and regulations relevant to ongoing cases.
  • Communicate effectively with attorneys, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Meet deadlines and work efficiently on short timelines.
  • Continuously learn and develop skills under the guidance of experienced appellate lawyers.

 

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (.) from an ABA-approved law school.
  • Membership in good standing with the Michigan Bar.
  • 3-5 years of appellate writing experience.
  • Former appellate or circuit court clerkship experience (desirable).
  • Law review experience.
  • Graduation in the top 15% of the law school class.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
