Job Title: Project Attorney (24-Month Term Position) in the Adult Survivors Act Unit at the Office of the New York State Attorney General

Salary: Based on experience, competitive with comprehensive New York State benefits package

Experience: Minimum of three years post-graduate legal experience, including civil and/or criminal trial experience. Experience defending or prosecuting sexual assault cases is a plus.

Location: Multiple positions available in Albany, Buffalo, New York City, Poughkeepsie, Rochester, and Westchester.

Division of State Counsel:
- Hiring a team of skilled Project Attorneys for the Adult Survivors Act (ASA) Unit
- Selected attorneys will be hired for a 24-month term with the possibility to extend for an additional 12 months
- Responsible for ensuring ASA claims against the State of New York are properly litigated and defended in the Court of Claims

Responsibilities:
- Handling all phases of litigation from inception through trial
- Drafting pleadings and papers
- Motion practice, including analysis, research, drafting, and oral arguments
- Discovery, including interrogatories, document discovery, and depositions
- Selecting and working with expert witnesses
- Negotiating settlements
- Trial preparation
- Representing the State of New York at mediation and trial

Requirements:
- At least three years of post-graduate legal experience
- Must be admitted to practice law in New York State
- Must be a citizen of the United States
- Commitment to complete a two-year term is a condition of employment
