Johnson & Johnson is seeking a highly qualified Senior Patent Counsel to join our Legal & Compliance team. This position offers the opportunity to work with the Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicines R&D organization, specifically supporting the Discovery, Product Development and Supply team. The Senior Patent Counsel will be responsible for providing a full range of patent support functions, including patent preparation and prosecution, freedom-to-operate analysis, rendering opinions, managing outside counsel, and drafting and negotiating license and research collaboration agreements. This role also involves regular presentations and interactions with the business regarding patent and intellectual property related contractual matters.

Responsibilities:

- Provide patent support to Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicines R&D organization
- Conduct patent preparation and prosecution
- Conduct freedom-to-operate analysis
- Render opinions on patentability and non-infringement
- Manage outside counsel
- Draft and negotiate license and research collaboration agreements
- Regularly make presentations and interact with the business regarding patent and intellectual property related contractual matters

Qualifications:

- Minimum of an undergraduate degree in a biological related science
- Advanced degree strongly preferred
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
- Admitted to the USPTO and licensed to practice in at least one state or the District of Columbia
- Minimum of 5 years of life science patent experience at a law firm or in-house legal department of a multinational corporation
- Demonstrated competency in pharmaceutical drug discovery, development, and commercialization
- Fluent in both written and spoken English
- Ability to communicate effectively and counsel senior management
- Experience in rendering patentability and non-infringement opinions
- Positive attitude and ability to work independently and across business functions and cultures
- Ability to accommodate occasional travel

Preferred Qualifications:

- Educational and/or work experience in the . or with a . based multinational corporation
- Technical proficiency in RNA, Gene and/or Cell Therapy technologies
- Substantial experience drafting and prosecuting pharmaceutical-related patent applications

Salary Information:

- Base pay range: $142,000-$244,950
- Eligible for annual performance bonus
- Eligible for employee benefit programs such as health insurance, savings plan, pension plan, and more
