Salary: $75,000-$100,000 per year (commensurate with experience) Employment Type: Regular, Full Time Organization: The Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights Job Description: The Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights is seeking a full-time Staff Attorney for its Technical Assistance Program. This position offers a unique opportunity for an attorney to join a passionate team and advocate for the rights and best interests of immigrant children. The Staff Attorney will research and analyze complex issues at the intersection of child welfare and immigration law, provide case consultations and support, and participate in internal and external working groups. Responsibilities: - Consult with stakeholders on resources and best practices for serving immigrant children in child welfare systems - Review and interpret legal documents to facilitate consultations - Research state and federal law on immigration, child welfare, and family law - Draft legal analysis of complex issues - Conduct intake calls with parents in ICE custody to help them understand their rights related to their children - Provide internal case consultation and support - Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders and organizations at the intersection of immigration and child welfare - Capture data for reports to funders and internal departments - Participate in a supportive and collaborative work culture - Engage with colleagues and supervisors to develop strategies for technical assistance - Other duties as assigned Requirements: - . and license to practice law - Minimum 2 years of experience in child welfare or family law and/or policy - Strong legal analysis, negotiation, and mediation skills - Effective communication skills - Excellent case management and organizational skills - Ability to work independently and take initiative - Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team - Flexibility and adaptability to changing situations - Commitment to seeking and providing feedback and applying diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism principles - Ability to effectively engage with diverse cultures and identities - Strong writing skills - Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, Zoom, Adobe Acrobat, and willingness to learn new technology and platforms Preferred Qualifications: - Prior experience working with trauma survivors, migrants, refugees, or unaccompanied children - Lived experience supporting children and families in the immigration or child welfare system - Understanding of trauma and a trauma-informed approach to advocacy - Bilingual ability in English/Spanish or other languages spoken by the population served - Background or interest in . immigration law - Physical location in an area where the Young Center has an office or in the Southeast (Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, or South Carolina) Physical Demands: - Regular attendance and keyboarding - Sitting for long periods (at least 5 hours per day) - Ability to use a computer, telephone, and copy machine - Ability to travel by plane, car, and other conveyances within the . - Occasional lifting for event setup/preparation COVID-19 Considerations: All employees must be fully vaccinated prior to their first day of employment.
