Job Overview:

A law firm in New York City is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Toxic Tort Litigation Associate Attorney to join their dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of defense litigation experience, with a focus on toxic tort cases. This position requires an individual who is licensed to practice in New York courts, with additional state admissions, including New Jersey, being preferred. The successful candidate will be responsible for handling a caseload that involves substantial litigation defense and may span various practice areas related to toxic tort.

Duties:

• Draft, prepare, and handle pleadings, motions, orders, and legal memoranda.
• Draft and respond to written discovery and dispositive motions.
• Conduct legal research competently and with proficiency.
• Prepare and take depositions of parties and experts.
• Review client documents, draft case evaluations, and prepare status report correspondence.
• Review, assess, and handle matters from inception to trial.
• Assist with and participate in mediations and court appearances.
• Interact directly with clients, claim professionals, opposing counsel, colleagues, and staff.

Requirements:

• 5 years of defense litigation experience with a focus on toxic tort cases.
• Licensed to practice in New York courts; additional state admissions, including New Jersey, preferred.
• Proactive and able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong legal research and analytical skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail with superb organization and prioritization skills.
• Ability to handle multiple cases efficiently and move seamlessly from case to case.
• Knowledge of both state and federal court procedures.
• Proficiency with MS Office, including Excel, Outlook, and Internet navigation.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Admission to the New York State Bar; additional admissions, including New Jersey, preferred.

Skills:

• Litigation defense expertise, particularly in toxic tort cases.
• Legal research and analytical proficiency.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Organizational and prioritization skills.
• Familiarity with both state and federal court procedures.
