Organization is seeking a Staff Attorney to provide legal advice and recommendations to support its affiliates and divisions in matters concerning certification and licensure, professional ethics, contracts, and regulatory compliance. The Staff Attorney will be responsible for reviewing and resolving examination appeals, drafting and reviewing various organizational agreements, and reviewing and modifying corporate policies and procedures.




Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Review and resolve examination appeals and test accommodation requests, including the preparation of decisions and communications to stakeholders, consistent with organizational policies and procedures.
Draft and review various organizational agreements, and provide advice concerning contract modifications and risk issues.
Review and modify corporate policies and procedures.
Analyze and prepare responses to various complaint matters received by the organization, including consumer complaints and stakeholder inquiries/concerns.
Assist with the defense of any legal claims made against the organization, including performing research and analysis on complex legal issues.
Provide advice and recommendations regarding certification program matters, including eligibility, examinations, and standards.
Support the work of the Ethics Department, including performing record reviews, preparing ethics complaints and agreements, and consulting with department staff members regarding case reviews.
Work effectively with other NBCC and Affiliates' departments to provide support for department needs and strategies.
Adhere to program priorities and policies, procedures, and standards of practice, as well as the highest professional and ethical standards.
Keep abreast of developments in the law and nonprofit field and disseminates relevant information to organizational staff.
Conduct administrative tasks, as needed.

Required Education/Experience:
Juris Doctor (.) degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association
Admission to the North Carolina bar (license must be in good standing)
2-3 years of experience as a full-time, practicing attorney (whether in a law firm or in-house setting)
Strong analytical and organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, along with the ability to communicate effectively with others at all levels of the organization and with outside parties.
Excellent writing skills with the ability to research, develop, and produce quality, detailed correspondence, memoranda, contracts, and legal documents.
Working knowledge of word processing software; internet use; databases.
Ability to communicate progress of work and to meet deadlines.
Ability to work cooperatively, independently, and efficiently.


Preferred Education/Experience:
Additional consideration will be given to applicants with knowledge and experience with legal issues related to non-profit organizations, or in-house experience (but not required).

Travel Requirements:
5% travel required
