Company is looking for a Nonprofit Tax Manager to join their team in Grand Rapids, MI. The ideal candidate will be responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, evaluating and selecting alternative actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, and recognizing, communicating potential risks and potential changes in the tax policy.

Job Responsibilities:

Ensure clients comply with all applicable authorities, while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens
Conduct review of T/R’s and resolve all tax issues with client
Plan for early recognition of material tax and compliance issues and consult with the client and/or partner as appropriate
Review of ASC 740-10 (Uncertain Tax Positions) workpapers and disclosure for audited financial statements
Identify when research is needed; clearly and concisely frames issues to be researched; and clearly and concisely reports the analysis
Develop, recommend, and implement efficient and effective methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing clients’ current and future taxes
Introduce and develop new or improved ideas to improve the position of clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel
Review studies of tax implications and offer clients alternative courses of action
Research and implement nonprofit tax strategies, including experimentation with promising new strategies and ideas
Supervise associates and senior associates on all projects
Train Associates and Seniors how to use all current software tools
Act as a Career Advisor to associates and senior associates
Schedule and manage workload of associates and senior associates
Provide verbal and written performance feedback to associates and senior associates

Job Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics preferred
Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation preferred
Five (5) or more years of nonprofit tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience required
Prior supervisory experience required
CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations) required
Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role preferred
Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite preferred
Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software preferred
Superior verbal and written communication skills
Ability to effectively delegate work as needed
Strong analytical, research and critical thinking skills as well as decision-making skills
Capacity to work well in a team environment
Capable of developing and managing a team of tax professionals
Ability to compose written tax advice
Capable of effectively developing and maintaining client relationships
Executive presence and ability to act as primary client ,000
