Job Summary:

Flexport is seeking a Counsel for their Legal department to support the Company's Sales (Demand) Team in North America. The primary responsibility of this role is to lead the negotiation of various commercial agreements with customers for the Company's freight, customs, and trade finance products. This position will also support other business units' commercial needs as necessary.

Responsibilities:

- Lead contract negotiations with customers in the United States who procure the Company's freight forwarding, customs, and trade finance products.
- Support customer contract negotiations in other regions as needed.
- Provide support and guidance to sales teams on deal structure and contract negotiations.
- Lead commercial contract negotiations for the Company's trade finance offering, in partnership with the Head of Flexport Capital.
- Advise various business teams on risk, negotiation points, and agreement structures.
- Collaborate with leadership in Sales, Finance, Risk, Insurance, Compliance, and Operations teams to close deals.
- Act as the central point of contact for any new or updated agreements with customers.
- Support negotiation of commercial contracts with vendors as needed.
- Work with Business Technology and Demand/Sales teams to improve the current customer contract intake process flow.
- Serve as a trusted advisor and business partner to the Company by providing counsel and guidance for achieving business objectives.

Requirements:

- Juris Doctorate degree and bar admission in any US state.
- 5+ years of professional experience, preferably in-house.
- Experience negotiating ocean freight contracts is a plus.
- Knowledge of logistics or transportation and applicable liability standards and conventions (COGSA, Montreal, Warsaw, etc) is a plus.
- Strong understanding of commercial contract law.
- Willingness to learn and negotiate contracts in logistics, international trade, shipping, maritime, transportation, freight forwarding, and supply chain.
- Desire to support additional business teams as the Company grows.
- Practical experience and knowledge of commercial and contract law.
- Ability to effectively communicate with internal clients and address complex issues.
- Passion for closing deals.
- Strong multitasking skills and ability to prioritize multiple deliverables while meeting deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships and gain trust with personnel at all levels.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team in a scalable and accountable manner.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with both internal departments and external clients.
- Willingness to learn about freight forwarding and its complexities.
