A reputable law firm in Boston is seeking a highly qualified Mid-level Patent Agent with a strong academic background, substantial law firm or industry experience, and exceptional writing and communication skills. The ideal candidate will hold a degree in electrical engineering or computer science, possess admission to the USPTO, and have at least 4 years of relevant patent preparation and prosecution experience. This role involves working on patents related to electrical engineering, software, data science, AI, networking technologies, and machine learning, with a focus on network security and hardware security.

 

Duties:

  • Conduct patent searches and analyses to assess patentability.
  • Draft and prosecute patent applications in the areas of electrical engineering, computer science, software-related technologies, data science/AI, networking technologies, and machine learning.
  • Provide legal advice on patent strategy and portfolio management.
  • Collaborate with inventors, attorneys, and clients to gather necessary information for patent applications.
  • Analyze and respond to office actions from the USPTO.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in electrical engineering or computer science.
  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is mandatory.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution.
  • Solid understanding of patent laws and regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in patent prosecution related to electrical engineering or software-related technologies.
  • Knowledge in data science/AI, networking technologies (with a focus on network security), and machine learning.
  • Familiarity with hardware security.
