The Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights is seeking a passionate and dedicated Staff Attorney to join their team in Phoenix, AZ. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to advocate for the best interests of immigrant children in immigration removal proceedings. As a part of the interdisciplinary team at Young Center, the Staff Attorney will work with social workers, attorneys, and administrative staff to ensure that children receive the full protection of federal immigration law, domestic child welfare law, and international human rights law. The Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights is a national organization dedicated to protecting and advancing the rights and best interests of immigrant children in the United States. As the appointed independent Child Advocate for unaccompanied and separated children, Young Center advocates for their best interests with respect to their custody, placement, conditions of release, reunification with caregivers, repatriation, and their immigration proceedings. The organization does not directly represent children in immigration matters but works closely with legal service providers who may represent the children's legal interests. The Staff Attorney will have a variety of duties and responsibilities, including advocating for children's best interests, supervising volunteers, providing internal case consultation, supporting recruitment and training efforts, and maintaining relationships with stakeholders and organizations in the community. They will also actively engage with colleagues and supervisors to develop and edit interdisciplinary best interests determinations and accompany children to court hearings and interviews related to their immigration case. The minimum requirements for this position include a . and license to practice law, prior experience working with children and/or youth, strong legal analysis and communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. Preferred qualifications include lived experience supporting immigrant children and their families, an understanding of trauma-informed advocacy, and a background in immigration or juvenile law.
