We are currently looking for a motivated lawyer to join our legal team and advise HCSC on privacy, data, digital, and information security issues impacting health care and adjacent industries. ## Job Summary This is an opportunity for a motivated lawyer to advise HCSC on privacy, data, digital, and information security issues impacting health care and adjacent industries, the largest customer-owned health insurer in the United States, operating through its Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in Illinois, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. These companies help advance HCSC’s goal of expanding access to quality, cost-effective health care to help people live healthier. ## Essential Functions * Provide practical and forward-thinking legal advice on moderately complex projects relating to privacy, data, digital, and information security, including negotiation of data use, privacy and vendor agreements, counseling on new technologies and cyber security, counseling on privacy incident response, implementation of new legal requirements, and other miscellaneous business initiatives. * Provide legal support on more routine day-to-day business matters with reasonable degree of independence. * Counsel on potential emerging areas of risk and regulation related to privacy, security and data. Work with the business and legal colleagues on implementation of new requirements. * Work proactively with business and legal partners to identify and address potential regulatory, legal and business risks. * Exercise judgment and ability to manage competing deadlines. * Provide functional advice and guidance to legal support staff when assigned. * Collaborate with legal colleagues to identify legal issues with potential cross-functional impact. * Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with co-workers, management, customers, and other stakeholders. * Demonstrate ability and interest in learning and willingness to take on new challenges. * Comply with HIPAA, Diversity Principles, Corporate Integrity, Compliance Program policies and other applicable corporate and departmental policies. * Maintain complete confidentiality of company business. ## Job Requirements * * 5 years’ experience as a practicing attorney after receiving a law degree. * Experience in the health care industry may substitute for legal experience. * Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills. ## Preferred Job Requirements * Demonstrated knowledge of key privacy, data and security laws and regulations, such as HIPAA, HITECH, and state laws. * 3+ years’ experience advising providers, insurers, other health care entities. or government agencies on privacy, data, digital, and information security legal issues. * Contract negotiation experience. * CIPP/US Certification a plus. * Interest in expanding areas of legal interest and growing skills. This role is a hybrid role and will require 3 in-office days per week. This position can be based in Chicago, Illinois; Richardson, Texas; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Albuquerque, New Mexico; or Helena, Montana. The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
