Job Title: Law Clerk - Summer Law Clerk Program 2024 Location: Annapolis, MD, US Organization: Maryland Legal Aid (MLA) Department: Civil Legal Services Salary: - per hour (annually) Experience: Junior or senior college/university student or law school student Overview: - Maryland Legal Aid provides civil legal assistance to low-income and marginalized individuals and communities in the state. - Dedicated to preserving basic human needs and rights for clients navigating the justice system. - MLA is able to serve tens of thousands of economically disadvantaged and vulnerable Marylanders every year with the support of staff, pro bono attorneys, community partners, and general supporters. Job Summary: - Full-time summer law clerk program for law students. - Under the supervision of a licensed attorney, gain exposure to challenges and opportunities of providing civil legal services to those in need. - Learn about legal practice, office administration, and non-profit management. - Develop skills in completing administrative forms, conducting client intakes, tracking policy changes, conducting legal research, and more. - Professional development opportunities provided through this internship include training in civil law and cultural competency, and networking opportunities with community partners. Qualifications: - Junior or senior college/university student or law school student in any major. - Prior experience and/or interest in working with low-income populations. - Prior experience and/or interest in law or providing non-profit civil legal services. - Good verbal and written communication skills. - Interest in dispute resolution and legal advocacy. - Ability to work independently and as a team member in a fast-paced, cross-cultural environment with a diverse client base. - Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and web-based applications. - Ability to work within an office environment and have regular interaction via in-person, tele - July 26, 2024 Hours: Maximum of 35 hours per week for 10 weeks during the summer.
