# Assistant Attorney General - Criminal Enforcement - Special Prosecutions

## Overview
The Financial Crimes Prosecution Unit is a specialized prosecution group based in Chicago that investigates and prosecutes a wide range of complex economic crimes throughout Illinois. Cases are received from federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and from county states attorneys. An Assistant Attorney General assigned to the unit will prosecute cases throughout the state and should expect to travel. Cases in the unit are handled as vertical prosecutions; AAsG are expected to handle cases from intake through sentencing.

## Duties and Responsibilities
* Provide legal advice and assistance to law enforcement agencies during the course of investigation
* Evaluate cases for prosecution
* Initiate prosecutions
* Handle their cases through sentencing and post-trial motions
* Conduct grand jury investigations
* Draft petitions for and obtain search warrants and overhear orders
* Work with law enforcement in planning undercover operations

## Minimum Qualifications
* In-depth knowledge of the principles of criminal law, in general and some knowledge of the statutes used to prosecute various types of white collar crime
* Two or more years of felony trial experience, preferably involving white collar crime
* Knowledge of the law of evidence as it relates to privileges
* Familiarity with grand jury practice and procedure
* Licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois
* Willingness to travel

## Salary
Salaries are commensurate with the number of years of practice as a licensed attorney and start at $76,008.
