# Senior Law Clerk ## Summary The State of South Carolina Attorney General's Office is currently seeking a Senior Law Clerk to assist attorneys with representation for the State in state and federal courts. The Senior Law Clerk will conduct legal research, prepare briefs, pleadings, memoranda, or other filings, and review and summarize evidence and exhibits. This position is temporary and full-time, with a hiring range of per hour. ## Job Responsibilities Under limited supervision, the Senior Law Clerk's responsibilities will include: * Conducting legal research * Preparing briefs, pleadings, memoranda, or other filings * Assisting with courtroom hearings and proceedings * Reviewing and summarizing evidence and exhibits * Assisting junior law clerks by monitoring caseloads and providing guidance on tasks and assignments ## Minimum and Additional Requirements To be eligible for this position, applicants must: * Be graduating in the current semester or recently graduated from an ABA-accredited law school * Be willing to travel and transport files * Have an above-average understanding of computers, software, and technology (including MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and related software) * Be able to occasionally travel overnight for trials or hearings in other counties ## Preferred Qualifications The ideal candidate for this position will have: * Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently and meet deadlines * Excellent writing skills with attention to detail * The ability to communicate and advocate effectively * Excellent legal research skills * The ability to interact with the public and officials courteously and respectfully * Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and organizational functions * The ability to maintain confidentiality at all times ## Drug Screening, Credit Checks, Delinquent Tax Checks, and Background Checks Applicants for this position must pass a drug screening, credit checks, delinquent tax checks, and background checks. ## Equal Opportunity Employer The State of South Carolina Attorney General's Office is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer. ## Application Procedures All applicants must apply for this position through .
