Position Summary:

- Performs legal work for the Office of the General Counsel
- Prepares legal documents and provides legal advice and counsel
- Works under general to limited supervision with moderate to considerable latitude
- Regular and punctual attendance required
- Criminal background check and occasional travel may be required

Qualifications:

- Graduation from an accredited law school with an . or . degree
- Must be licensed to practice law in the state of Texas
- 3-5 years of experience as a practicing and licensed attorney
- 1-2 years of experience providing legal support or working with contracting and procurement functions
- Knowledge of state government, legislative processes, and budgeting
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook

Responsibilities:

- Prepare and review contracts, including technology contracts and license agreements
- Assist with contract negotiations and advise staff on legal and regulatory aspects of procurement
- Research and advise on legal issues related to contract terms and conditions, procurement, rulemaking, privacy, and relevant federal laws
- Ensure compliance with open meetings and open records laws and regulations
- Serve as the agency's assistant ethics officer
- Conduct investigations and prepare reports as necessary
- Other duties as assigned
