Overview:

The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) is seeking an Attorney I to join their dynamic team of legal professionals. TDI regulates the insurance industry, administers the Texas workers’ compensation system, and educates and protects consumers. Responsibilities:

· Research, interpret, and apply agency regulations and state and federal laws to complex legal issues.

· Draft legal opinions and memoranda on regulatory matters.

· Research, analyze, and draft administrative rules and orders.

· Lead cross-functional teams to complete administrative rules and other projects.

· Coordinate and participate in administrative and regulatory hearings.

· Research, draft, and collaborate on drafting bills and amendments as requested by the legislature.

· Assist the Office of the Attorney General in preparing cases for litigation.

· Respond to inquiries from agency staff, legislators, and the public.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

· Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (.) or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree.

· Licensure as an attorney to practice law in Texas.

· Member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.

Preferences:

· Previous experience as an attorney with a focus on government, administrative, or public law.

· Previous experience advising in-house on legal issues or similar environment.

· Previous experience drafting rules and legislation.
