A law firm in Boston is seeking a highly qualified Associate Attorney with a background in chemistry, particularly organic or medicinal chemistry. The ideal candidate should possess an advanced degree (. preferred or . with industry experience), be registered to practice at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and preferably be admitted to the State Bar in MA. This role requires excellent communication skills, a superior academic background, and a strong desire for teamwork, significant responsibility, and client interaction.

 

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications related to small molecule pharmaceuticals.
  • Conduct patent validity, non-infringement, and freedom-to-operate analyses.
  • Support IP due diligences, patent litigations, and post-grant proceedings (IPR, PGR, interferences).
  • Interact with clients to understand their needs and provide legal advice.
  • Collaborate with legal teams on various intellectual property matters.
  • Take on significant responsibility in legal research and analysis.

 

Requirements:

  • Advanced degree (. preferred, or . with several years of industry experience) in chemistry, with a focus on organic or medicinal chemistry.
  • Registration to practice at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Admission to a State Bar, preferably in MA.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Superior academic background.
  • The desire for teamwork, significant responsibility, and client interaction.

 

Experience:

  • 2+ years of substantive experience in patent law.
  • Experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Familiarity with patent analyses and supporting IP matters related to small molecule pharmaceuticals.
