A law firm is seeking a highly motivated Associate Attorney to join their team in Fairfield, NJ. The primary focus of this role is to manage bankruptcy matters, particularly those that are contested or litigated. The ideal candidate will have experience in representing creditors and/or debtors in Chapter 7, 11, and 13 bankruptcy cases, and must be capable of handling a high-volume workload while maintaining a high degree of professionalism.

 

Duties:

  • Manage bankruptcy matters that are considered contested or litigated.
  • Draft and review all pleadings and claims filed in the particular matter.
  • Respond to all objections and motions involving the rights of clients.
  • Attend scheduled hearings.
  • Respond to general firm-wide bankruptcy inquiries.
  • Prepare and execute documents related to bankruptcy cases.
  • Draft and review all filings on behalf of the clients.
  • Monitor all electronic filings (ECFs).
  • Regularly communicate with clients.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

  • Must have 1+ years of bankruptcy and/or creditor’s rights experience with a working knowledge of the Bankruptcy Code.
  • Experience in representing creditors and/or debtors in Chapter 7, 11, and 13 bankruptcy cases.
  • Must handle a high-volume workload and maintain client contact.

 

Education:

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

 

Certifications:

  • Must be admitted to practice law in Florida, the Federal Districts in Florida, and have a familiarity with Florida bankruptcy courts, local rules, and court procedures.
  • License to practice law in Florida preferred, but the firm will consider candidates licensed in other states.
  • Admissions in other jurisdictions and/or experience in bankruptcy litigation related matters is a strong plus and may substitute for admission in Florida.

 

Skills:

  • Advanced computer literacy and the ability to learn and utilize different case management systems.
  • Familiarity with the CM/ECF filing system.
  • Exceptional work ethic and high degree of professionalism.
  • High level of attention to detail and organization.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Solid understanding of consumer loan documents.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet strict deadlines.
  • Knowledge of bankruptcy rules/laws and general creditor rights laws.
