A law firm located in New York City, NY, is seeking an Intellectual Property Patent Agent to join their team. The role primarily involves preparing and prosecuting patent applications, conducting patent landscape and freedom-to-operate analysis, and performing IP due diligence. The ideal candidate should hold a degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or biomedical engineering, with a strong background in computer science and software. Preferably, candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience and possess strong academic credentials. Registration with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) or the ability to become registered is required for all candidates.

Duties:

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications on behalf of clients.
  • Conduct patent landscape analysis to assess the competitive landscape in specific technology areas.
  • Perform freedom-to-operate analysis to evaluate whether a client's products or processes may infringe on existing patents.
  • Conduct intellectual property (IP) due diligence to assess the IP assets of companies in various transactions, such as mergers and acquisitions.
  • Collaborate with inventors and stakeholders to understand inventions and innovations.
  • Stay current with changes in patent laws and regulations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or biomedical engineering.
  • Strong background in computer science and software.
  • Preferably, 2 or more years of experience in patent-related work.
  • Strong academic credentials.
  • Registration with the USPTO or the ability to become registered.
