A law firm is seeking a Public Safety Associate Attorney for its Riverside, CA, location.

Job Overview:

The Public Safety Associate Attorney will handle labor and employment matters primarily for public sector clients, particularly city, county, and/or state agencies. The role requires expertise in public safety issues, including familiarity with the Public Safety Procedural Bill of Rights Act (POBR) and the Firefighter Procedural Bill of Rights Act (FBOR). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in preparing cases for trial/arbitration and conducting workplace investigations.

Duties:

  • Handle labor and employment matters for public sector clients, focusing on police and fire departments.
  • Prepare cases for trial/arbitration and participate in trials, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings.
  • Negotiate collective bargaining agreements and assist clients with employee grievances.
  • Represent clients in administrative proceedings before the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB).
  • Conduct workplace investigations, including interviews and document reviews.
  • Draft Investigation Reports, Notices of Intent to Discipline, and Closing Briefs.
  • Provide legal advice and support to clients, both verbally and through written memoranda and opinions.
  • Develop litigation plans and courses of action for assigned matters.
  • Maintain professionalism and competence while managing client interactions with limited supervision.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience handling labor and employment matters for public sector clients.
  • Familiarity with POBR and FBOR.
  • Knowledge of public sector labor and employment law, labor relations, and employee benefits/PERS issues.
  • Experience with collective bargaining, employee grievances, and administrative proceedings.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned matters.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and self-starter mentality.
  • Impeccable judgment and follow-through skills.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the California State Bar.
  • Certification in labor and employment law preferred.
