A law firm is seeking a Criminal Defense Attorney to join their team in Shelton, CT. This position involves representing clients in criminal defense cases and ensuring the efficient operation of the firm's legal processes.

Job Overview:

The Criminal Defense Attorney will be responsible for representing clients in court, conducting legal research, preparing legal documents, and overseeing support staff. They should possess strong legal knowledge and be capable of managing a heavy caseload with minimal supervision. Effective communication, analytical skills, and a passion for criminal defense are essential.

Duties:

• Appear in court on behalf of clients and effectively argue motions during legal proceedings.
• Conduct comprehensive legal research and prepare motions, pleadings, and briefs.
• Provide supervision and guidance to paralegals, law clerks, and administrative staff.
• Prepare various legal documents, including motions, pleadings, briefs, and correspondence.
• Take responsibility for administrative tasks related to client invoicing, scheduling meetings, and completing assignments.
• Utilize advanced computer skills to work with legal research programs, such as Westlaw and Lexis.

Requirements:

• Successful completion of an accredited law school with a Juris Doctorate (.) degree.
• A minimum of 2 years of related legal experience, preferably in criminal defense.
• Demonstrated ability to handle a heavy caseload with limited supervision.
• Strong public speaking, decision-making, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Minimum 1-2 years of experience working in a law firm environment.
• Active Bar membership in good standing with no pending or prior disciplinary history.
• Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with clients and the team.
• Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and a passion for serving criminal defense clients.
• Excellent written, verbal, and public speaking communication skills.
• Comfortable working in an all-Mac environment.
• Exceptional analytical abilities and good organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
• Exercise flexibility, initiative, good judgment, and discretion in legal matters.
