Senior Product Counsel - Job Summary:

The Senior Product Counsel will play a critical role in providing legal advice and guidance to Databricks' engineering and product management teams. This role will involve navigating complex global laws and regulations related to big data, data privacy, data protection, and AI. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of product counseling, privacy and security laws, marketing, and technology transactions, as well as a strong desire to learn and adapt to new areas of law quickly. This is a highly collaborative role and will require working closely with cross-functional teams within Databricks and external partners.

Key Responsibilities:

- Provide expert legal advice and exercise sound business judgment to Databricks' engineering and product management teams.
- Develop and implement processes to improve the product counseling function.
- Collaborate with various teams at Databricks and external partners to support the development, deployment, and operation of technology for both external and internal users.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of product and data risk issues and effectively communicate technical and security concerns to non-technical lawyers.
- Review and provide legal guidance on marketing and other communications related to products.
- Draft and update form agreements and negotiate changes to customer contracts, including those involving data privacy and security.
- Provide general legal support on an as-needed basis for other areas of the business.
- Work with potential vendors to assess data flows and determine privacy and data protection risks.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of processes and procedures within the legal department.

Requirements:

- Minimum 5-7 years of relevant legal experience, with at least 2 years focused on product, privacy, AI, and/or IP law.
- Experience working for a company offering platform services to business customers is a plus.
- Deep understanding of cloud and software technology, with a strong desire to work on legal issues in these areas.
- Technical background, either through education or experience, or a strong passion for technology.
- State bar membership is required.
- Ability to manage competing demands and prioritize tasks without direct guidance.
- Comfortable working with distributed teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Compensation:

Databricks is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The pay range for this role is $172,600-$305,400 USD, and the total compensation package may also include eligibility for annual performance bonus, equity, and the benefits listed above. Actual compensation will be determined based on various factors, including skills, experience, certifications, and work location.
